Matthews East Update

Dear New City,

We made some important announcements regarding our Matthews East campus yesterday, and I wanted to personally outline the news and changes.

Please read all of this with the knowledge that I, our leadership team, and our elders have been praying over these changes for months. We care deeply for the people of our church and the implications all of this has on each person. We are also encouraged by the work God is clearly doing at New City and are excited to move forward together.

1. We have decided not to renew our lease at Matthews East. We want to be good stewards of the resources God has given us, and it has become clear that the Matthews East building is not a sensible long-term location, both financially and spatially. We also considered the proximity of our two Matthews campuses and it simply didn’t make sense to keep two distinct campuses operating within a mile of each other. This campus will continue to meet with active ministries through the fall or winter of 2019, and we will update you more as a timeline develops.

2. We will be launching a campus in the Idlewild corridor. This opportunity emerged as leadership was searching for a location that would be suitable for the body of believers at Matthews East who would want to continue in community together. It is also a neighborhood that we have been faithfully serving for years; this will enable us to love on that community and live "on mission" in ways we couldn't have before. The launch date of this campus is not yet determined, but we are asking people from every campus to prayerfully consider if you are being called to be a part of this new campus with us and bring gospel renewal to Idlewild.

3. Ryan Falls will be closing a door at New City. Last fall, Ryan came to me to share his heart on his calling to seek a Senior Pastor position outside of New City Church. We believe the Lord has gifted Ryan with the upright heart and skilled hands needed to lead a church and we are honored to support him in that step. We will share more about his next steps as he walks through this process, but I ask you to join me in praying for Ryan and his family as they journey through this new chapter.

4. Effective immediately, Travis Janousek is stepping into the role of Matthews East Campus Pastor. If you know Travis, you already know he’s a gifted leader and is deeply invested in serving our church and community. We’re looking forward to what God will continue to do in and through Travis as he leads this campus through the next few months and serves as campus pastor of the new Idlewild campus.

We will keep you updated on the timeline as things move forward. Thank you for being part of our vision to bring gospel renewal to our city and world. Moments like these become the Only God stories we will tell in the future; I’m so grateful to be walking through this season with each of you.

"Now to him who is able..."
