Mission: Charlotte 2022

Mission: Charlotte is entering its second year, and we are so excited to be forming two mission teams this year!

Designed as a local summer mission experience for high school students (rising 9th-12th graders and graduating seniors), Mission: Charlotte 2022 provides a space for learning and growing as disciples of Christ, developing as leaders, using our gifts and skills to bless others, and having fun as a team. Through this mission, we also get to help further the work of New City in our local community.

Each Mission: Charlotte 2022 team will:

  • participate in 6 weeks of training, team-building, and preparation for the mission week
  • take ownership of planning and executing outreach activities (as a team) in a local community
  • spend four days "on mission" in July
  • debrief and celebrate together at the end of the mission week

Team 1 will focus on the Greenway Park area. While we have a history of working with Greenway Park Elementary, we are just beginning to explore outreach in the surrounding community. Team 1 will help plan and execute a 3-day outreach experience for kids and families living in the area.

Team 2 will focus on the Idlewild area and furthering New City's relationship at the Ashley Place apartment complex. This team will plan and execute a 3-day summer camp experience for kids in the community.

Note: Because Mission: Charlotte does require an investment of time throughout the summer, please review the dates and times below to ensure that you can be fully present and engaged. If you have any questions about the schedule, please bring them to the info meeting or contact Melissa Lewis.

KICK-OFF MEETING + LUNCH

Parents and students who have officially joined Mission: Charlotte 2022 will meet together on Sunday, May 1, 1:00–3:00 pm. We'll meet in Colony Café at our SouthPark location and lunch will be provided.

TRAINING MEETINGS (PRE-MISSION)

Both teams will meet together for six pre-mission training meetings. Students are required to attend at least four of the six meetings as this time builds critically toward the mission week experience. During these meetings, we will do things together as a large group and spend time in our smaller mission teams.

Training meetings are scheduled for every Thursday, 4:00–6:00 pm, May 19–June 30, with the exception of June 23 (when we will not meet). These meetings will be held at the Matthews location.

COST

Cost/student = $95
