New City is a partner with Urban Ministry Center's Room In the Inn (RITI) to provide meals to people being hosted by churches that open their facilities to provide shelter and food for homeless people during the winter months, December 1 – March 31. Each site offers a warm, safe place to sleep, serves three meals (dinner, breakfast and a bag lunch) and then returns guests the following morning to uptown Charlotte. The program offers a unique way for people of faith to become directly involved with individuals who are homeless. The basic goal is to keep homeless people from freezing on cold winter nights.
New City Church partners in this ministry with Providence United Methodist Church and Sardis Presbyterian Church. We provide the evening meal at both of these locations.
Please consider helping by getting a group together to prepare and serve a meal for around 20 guests from Urban Ministry Center that are staying at Providence UMC and/ or Sardis Presbyterian through the Room in the Inn program.
This is a great service opportunity for a small group, bible study, or book club and it is appropriate to bring children 7 and older to help or to simply eat.
