Our Story

New City is a family of congregations helping people find and follow Jesus here, near, and far.

Our
Beginning

The story of New City began with two churches coming together in 2019, and has developed a vision to help people find and follow Jesus within our congregations, in our city, and around the world.

Our
Calling

In Matthew 28:18–20, Jesus told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Our
Purpose

Our purpose as a church comes from this passage and Jesus’ command to make disciples. We want to do that for those who already attend New City, for the people of our city—whether they already know Jesus or not—and for people around the world through strategic partnerships with ministries in East Africa and other global outposts.

Our Congregations

New City is a family of congregations. This is a way of organizing our multiple locations under the common governance, mission, and leadership of New City Church. This kind of organization leverages the strength of a larger church while offering the relational connections of a smaller community. Each of our congregations is led by a Congregation Pastor and team who shepherd, teach, and lead to serve the neighborhoods in their sphere of influence.

Our
Future

Here is what we know: we are called to help people in our relational world find and follow Jesus. This is an unchanging mission in an everchanging world. As we look to the future we anticipate opportunities to journey with more people in more neighborhoods in our city and world. And along the way we seek God’s wisdom, trust his direction, and pray for his discernment as we step ever more into his Big Story.

Our Beginning

The story of New City began as a replanted church, born out of the blending of two Charlotte-area churches in 2019, and has developed a vision to help people find and follow Jesus within our congregations, in our city, and around the world.
