Volunteer with New City ESL

The New City English as a Second Language (ESL) program invites you to serve with us!

Starting in the fall of 2024, we will be launching a second English as a Second Language class. The two classes will be:

  • Mondays, 7:00–8:30 pm at Place of Peace (Ashley Place Apartments)
  • Wednesdays, 9:30–11:00 am at Idlewild Elementary School

Teach/Tutor (Mondays or Wednesdays)

If you're interested in working with English Language Learners, consider joining our team of teachers/tutors. We work together to provide weekly interactive, engaging English lessons for our adult students while also building intentional relationships throughout the term.

The next term begins:

  • Monday, September 9, 7:00–8:30 pm (volunteers arrive at 6:45 pm)
  • Wednesday, September 11, 9:30–11:00 am (volunteers arrive at 9:15 am)

No prior ESL experience is required.

Contact New City Serve to learn more about teaching ESL with New City.

Provide childcare (Mondays)

While our Monday evening class meets, the adult students' children receive intentional childcare—including free play, crafts, reading, games, etc.—from New City volunteers. If you're interested in helping make this a fun and meaningful time for the kids, we welcome you to serve a couple of Monday evenings or on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

Contact New City Serve to sign up to serve with ESL childcare.

Note: If you would like to serve but need childcare for your own children, please let us know. They are welcome to be part of the childcare class provided for the students' children.
